Kamene Goro Opens Up on Emotional Betrayal During Life-Saving Surgery

Media personality Kamene Goro has pulled back the curtain on the darkest chapter of her life, detailing a harrowing battle with sepsis and peritonitis that brought her to the very precipice of death in January 2026.

The public has previously heard snippets of her struggle but her latest revelations on the Tubonge podcast paint a chilling picture of what it feels like to be trapped in an ICU ward where the line between life and death is measured in mere hours.

The ordeal, which required surgeons to remove five litres of pus from her abdomen and perform a complex organ-repositioning surgery, was a fight against impossible odds.

Kamene’s account goes beyond the medical jargon, focusing on the psychological weight of being the sole survivor in a ward where she witnessed the grim routine of mortality.

The Weight of Being the “Lone Survivor”

Perhaps the most visceral part of her testimony is how she reflects on the company she kept in the hospital. Having been told by a doctor that she had only “four to five hours” to live, Kamene found herself in a unique, isolating position. She was not just fighting for her own life; she was witnessing the finality of others’ journeys.

“Everyone I was in the ICU with, I was the only one who came out alive, and I was the one with the least odds out of everyone,” she shared as  first reported by Tuko.

This reality became even more tangible in the HDU, where she experienced moments that have etched themselves into her memory forever.

She recounted the surreal sight of officers carrying a casket into the ward—a visual, she admits, that she will never be able to unsee.

“They passed between me and the guy next to me. I was the only chick in the HDU. I was to be released, and then pneumonia came,” she reflected.

The Sting of Betrayal

While the physical pain was immense, it was the cold-hearted actions of a trusted associate that left the deepest emotional mark.

When her mother, desperate for resources to fund the mounting medical bills, reached out to a man who owed Kamene a significant sum, the response was not just a refusal,it was a calculated act of cruelty.

“That person said they were sending the money, and then after 15 minutes he blocked her. I said, I’ll never forgive this man,” Kamene stated firmly.
