How Plot to Suspend FKF President Hussein Mohammed Was Hatched

On Friday, the administrative foundations of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) experienced a seismic shift as the National Executive Committee (NEC) mobilized to remove President Hussein Mohammed from power.

The plot to remove the federation’s leadership was fueled by an investigative exposé by The Standard which revealed that Sh42.4 million meant for the CHAN Pamoja tournament had been wired to an unlicensed brokerage firm.

Sources indicate that the discovery served as the final catalyst after NEC members  frequently voiced grievances regarding their systemic exclusion from the federation’s decision-making processes, the committee members saw an opportunity to act.

By aligning around the demand for transparency, they successfully transitioned from a marginalized group to the architects of a major leadership overhaul, targeting Mohammed, acting CEO Dennis Gicheru, and NEC member Abdallah Yusuf.

The Execution of the Leadership Shakeup

Once the committee reached a consensus, the execution was swift and designed to paralyze the influence of the ousted officials while securing the federation’s future.

The NEC immediately installed Deputy President McDonald Mariga in an acting capacity, tasking him with convening an urgent meeting to restore order to the house of football.

To prevent further financial leakage during the transition, the committee ordered the immediate freezing of all bank accounts where the former president held signatory authority.

In a move to ensure both legitimacy and impartiality, the committee formally requested that FIFA, CAF, and the Ministry of Sports deploy independent forensic auditors to examine all federation records.

By committing to a comprehensive review of all existing contracts and inviting international oversight, the NEC is positioning this transition as a definitive break from the past.

The effort to purge the federation’s financial management marks a critical attempt to restore institutional integrity and ensure that the sport’s resources are guarded against future mismanagement.
