Junior Starlets Handed Tough Group as Kenya Learn 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Fixture

Kenya’s Junior Starlets will face one of their toughest assignments yet after learning their opponents for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
Fresh from sealing qualification with a commanding 5-1 aggregate victory over South Africa’s Bantwana, the Junior Starlets have been drawn in Group E alongside the United States, China and Samoa, setting up three intriguing encounters as they chase a historic place in the knockout stages.
The 24-team tournament will run from October 17 to November 7 in Morocco, with Kenya making a second consecutive appearance after debuting at the global event in the Dominican Republic in 2024.
Coach Mildred Cheche’s side will open the campaign against China on October 19 before taking on tournament heavyweights the United States on October 22. Kenya will wrap up the group stage against Samoa on October 25.

Difficult Group Presents Major Test
Group E features a blend of experience, pedigree and ambition, making it one of the most competitive pools in the tournament.
China head into Morocco for a fifth FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup appearance. The Asian nation has consistently qualified for the tournament and has developed a reputation for technical football and disciplined performances. A Round of 16 finish in 2025 remains China’s best result, but experience alone makes the opening fixture a difficult assignment for the Junior Starlets.
Three days later, Kenya will come up against one of the tournament favourites in the United States.
The Americans are among the most successful teams in the history of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup and will be making an eighth appearance. A runners-up finish in 2008 and a third-place finish in 2024 underline the quality that has defined the American youth system over the years.
A positive result against the United States would rank among the biggest achievements in Kenya’s youth football history.
Samoa complete the group and will also be eager to leave a mark on the tournament. The Oceania nation returns for a second appearance after making its World Cup debut in 2025, where it exited during the group stage.
Despite having less experience than the other teams, Samoa are expected to provide a stern challenge, particularly if qualification to the knockout rounds is still up for grabs heading into the final round of matches.
Kenya’s final group fixture against Samoa could therefore become decisive depending on results from the opening two games.
Opportunity to Build on Historic Debut
Qualification for a second successive FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup reflects the steady progress made by Kenya’s women’s youth football programme over the past few years.
A dominant 2-0 victory away to South Africa in the first leg of the final qualifying round laid the foundation before the Junior Starlets completed the job in Nairobi to secure another historic qualification.
Experience gained during the 2024 tournament is expected to play a key role when Kenya returns to the global stage.
A difficult draw greeted the Junior Starlets during the tournament in the Dominican Republic, where defeats to England and eventual champions North Korea ended hopes of reaching the knockout rounds.
An impressive response followed in the final group match as Kenya defeated Mexico 2-1 to register the country’s first-ever victory at a FIFA women’s tournament.
Confidence from that breakthrough victory, combined with another successful qualification campaign, gives the Junior Starlets every reason to believe they can compete against established football nations once again.
Preparations are now expected to intensify as the technical bench fine-tunes the squad ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
Another strong showing would further cement Kenya’s growing reputation in women’s youth football and demonstrate the continued progress being made on the international stage.
