Majembe Challenges Tanzanian Star Mandonga to a Massive Regional Fight

Kenyan boxer Portifas ‘Majembe’ Odipo is currently at the center of a brewing cross-border rivalry that highlights the vibrant state of East African boxing.

Following a streak of dominant performances, the young champion has attracted the attention of one of the region’s most vocal and experienced pugilists: Tanzania’s Karim ‘Mtu Kazi’ Mandonga.

Mandonga has officially laid down a challenge that transcends a simple match, setting the stage for a classic confrontation between a rising prospect and a seasoned showman.

The tension reached a boiling point after Mandonga analyzed Majembe’s recent championship victory and questioned the young fighter’s methods.

“Wewe Majembe umekutana na mtu mdhaifu ukampiga chini ya mkanda ukasema umeshinda. Mimi Madonga ‘Mtu Kazi’ ni challenge naitisha. Nakuja Kenya kwa ajili yako Majembe. Lazima nikupige,” Mandonga asserted in a video shared from his training camp. .

By framing Majembe’s success as a result of facing “weak” opponents, Mandonga has effectively turned a potential bout into a quest for regional validation.

A Battle of Generations and Professional Pride

Majembe’s response has been characterized by the same confidence that earned him his most recent championship title.

Accepting the challenge with a mix of respect and competitive fire, the Kenyan athlete made it clear that he is ready for the veteran.

“Umeguza pabaya. Naheshimu wazee lakini wazee kama wewe nawapenda. Nitakupiga!” he declared.

Brandishing his championship belt as proof of his pedigree, he added a technical demand for the Tanzanian to meet: “Kata weight alafu ukuje.”

Majembe’s recent accolades have set a new standard for professional rewards in the local circuit, including Sh1,000,000 in cash, a Toyota Noah, and a Taro GP1 sport bike.

Legacy Built on Past Victories and Ring Power

The path to this moment was paved by Majembe’s explosive power in previous outings and his  rise to prominence was cemented during a high-profile victory over Ferdinand Omondi, famously known as Mbavu Destroyer.

In that encounter, Majembe landed a thunderous blow that sent Omondi crashing to the canvas, securing the Vurugu Championship and sparking the very debates about tactics that Mandonga is now leveraging.

Public opinion remains split, reflecting the deep boxing heritage of both nations. Mandonga’s supporters view him as a master of ring psychology and veteran craft, Majembe’s fans see a young powerhouse who represents the future of the sport.

Regardless of the eventual outcome, the narrative of the hungry newcomer versus the boisterous veteran ensures this story remains a definitive chapter in the history of East African professional boxing.
