TSC Receives Direct Order to Hire 1,800 Teachers for Northern Region Schools
One of the most significant interventions in Kenya’s education sector has been announced, with the government moving to address long-standing educational disparities in the Northern region.
President William Ruto has officially directed the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to recruit 1,800 additional teachers specifically for schools in Northern Kenya.
Speaking during a recent Women Empowerment Programme at Mandera Stadium, the President highlighted that the move aims to correct historical staffing imbalances that have plagued the region for decades.
“As a matter of affirmative action, 1,800 teachers will be hired in Northern Kenya to correct the historical imbalance and injustice that happened, where teachers from this region were not there, they were not hired, and as a result, whenever there were issues, teachers from other parts of the country left the children of this Northern Kenya in classes without teachers,” said President Ruto.
According to Education News, the government’s directive is part of a broader commitment to bridge the inequality gap that has persisted for 60 years.
The Teachers’ Service Commission has been instructed to expedite the recruitment process immediately.
The new educators are expected to report to their respective schools at the beginning of the upcoming May school term.
This latest move complements ongoing national education reforms, including recent efforts to boost teacher numbers and strengthen public schools.
Focusing on targeted investment and addressing the specific challenges of the Northern region, the government seeks to foster a more inclusive and equitable education system.
This initiative marks a pivotal step in the ongoing strategy to transform Northern Kenya and ensure that every child, regardless of location, has access to the education they deserve
