Youth Holiday Cup Tanzania’s Journey To Build New Generation After Serengeti Boys Afcon Success
A few months after Tanzania’s U-17 national team, the Serengeti Boys, made history by reaching the final of the 2025 AFCON U-17 in Morocco and qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in Qatar from November 19 to December 13, attention has now shifted to Arusha.
Hundreds of young players are expected to take part in the Youth Holiday Cup Season II, which will be held on June 21 and 22 at the FFU Oljoro-Morombo grounds.
The tournament is regarded as an important platform in developing youth football talent in the country, with a key attraction being the presence of an international scout and agent from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lourenço Manuel Jose, who is also involved in managing Dodoma Jiji FC midfielder Andy Bikoko.
His presence adds significant value to the tournament due to his experience in identifying, managing, and developing football talent across Africa. In modern football, agents and scouts play a crucial role in connecting young talent with professional opportunities both within and outside the continent.

The founder of the tournament, Daudi Peter, who is also a sports journalist and grassroots-level coach, says the main objective of the Youth Holiday Cup is to provide an early platform for identifying and developing young football talent.
Daudi Peter said: “We saw Tanzania reaching the final of the 2025 AFCON U-17 in Morocco for the first time in our history and also qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar from November 19 to December 13 this year. These achievements show that we have a lot of talent, and now it is our responsibility to ensure it is developed through such competitions.”
He added that the success of the Serengeti Boys should not be seen as the end of a journey, but rather the beginning of greater investment in youth football in Tanzania.
The Next Generation: Teams and Age Groups to Watch
Beyond reaching the 2025 AFCON U-17 final in Morocco, the Serengeti Boys also secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. These achievements have increased hope that Tanzania will continue producing a generation of players capable of competing at the highest international level.
This year’s tournament is expected to serve as a key platform for discovering and developing young talent from Arusha and other parts of the country.
In the U9 category, teams include Black Tiger, CTIDO, and Moja One. The U11 category features CTIDO, Black Tiger, Chuga Boys, Peace Academy, and Arusha 05.
In the U13 category, participating teams include Black Tiger, Chuga Boys, Peace Academy, Ilboru Elite, Vegas Junior, Red Dragon, New Stars, FYD Elite Dream Squad, FYD Dream Pathway, Black Eagle, Youth Talent Sports Centre, Moja One, and Arusha 05.
The U15 category includes Nice Sports Academy, Vegas Junior, and Red Dragon.
Beyond competition on the field, the Youth Holiday Cup has positioned itself as a platform for education, development, and talent identification. The presence of Lourenço Manuel Jose further raises hope for young players aspiring to reach top leagues in Africa and around the world.
