Arusha City Ready to Shine in UMITASHUMTA, UMISETA
Arusha City has successfully selected a total of 240 players who will represent the city in the regional level UMITASHUMTA and UMISETA competitions following the conclusion of district games held at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium.
The players were selected after intense competitions involving primary and secondary schools from different parts of Arusha City in a bid to identify the best talents ahead of the regional championships.
UMITASHUMTA, which stands for Tanzania Primary Schools Sports Association, involves competitions for primary school pupils, while UMISETA, the Tanzania Secondary Schools Sports Association, brings together student athletes from secondary schools across the country.
Speaking after the event, Arusha City Sports Officer, Ngoka Simon, said the competitions aimed at forming strong city teams that will compete at the regional level before advancing to national championships.
He explained that UMITASHUMTA competitions for primary schools are expected to begin on May 26, while UMISETA games for secondary schools will start on June 7 this year.

According to Ngoka, the regional competitions will also be used to select regional teams that will represent their areas in the national championships to be held in Iringa.
He said Arusha City is expected to send 240 players, including 120 from primary schools and another 120 from secondary schools across all sports disciplines.
The competitions featured several games including athletics, football, basketball, netball, handball, cricket and other sporting activities aimed at developing students’ talents.
“The main objective is to prepare students for competitive sports at regional, national and even East African FEASSSA level, while also developing future national talents,” said Ngoka.
He added that the level of competition witnessed during the district games gives hope that Arusha City will perform strongly in the upcoming regional championships.

Guest of honor at the event, Arusha City Education Officer, Charles Mwita, praised the students for their determination and discipline throughout the competitions.
Mwita promised cash bonuses to motivate the selected teams and encourage them to fight for success at the regional and national levels while proudly representing Arusha City.
Meanwhile, Deborah Amos from St Jude School said UMITASHUMTA and UMISETA competitions continue to provide students with an important platform to showcase their talents and pursue their dreams through sports.
