KEWOTA Vows to Remain Resolute Amid Sensationalized Payroll Controversy
KEWOTA (Kenya Women Teachers Association) has launched a forceful rebuttal against allegations suggesting the unauthorized deduction of Ksh200 monthly from female teachers’ salaries.
In a formal press statement, the association dismissed the claims as malicious fabrications and a “calculated fabrication” designed to undermine its institutional standing.
The controversy erupted following an exposé aired by KTN TV titled “KEWOTA Payroll Heist,” which the association has characterized as a reckless disregard for professional ethics and the law.
A Rebuttal of Defamatory Claims
According to the press release signed by the KEWOTA secretariat, the allegations are “not only baseless but are a calculated fabrication, orchestrated with reckless disregard for truth, professional ethics, and the law.”
Central to KEWOTA’s defense is the revelation that the primary individual behind the allegations has reportedly admitted in writing that the assertions were unverified and misleading.
KEWOTA maintains that this admission “irredeemably collapses the credibility of the entire broadcast.” The association further noted that the continued airing of this content, despite the alleged retraction, constitutes a grave violation of the Media Council Act, 2013.
The association has formally petitioned the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a thorough probe into the individuals and entities involved in what they term a defamatory scheme.
Commitment to Accountability and Professionalism
Beyond addressing the payroll allegations, the association defended its internal human resource processes and financial transparency. The secretariat emphasized that every employee holds the “requisite qualifications for the jobs they hold and none has been employed outside the established process.”
The leadership signaled a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, stating, “KEWOTA shall not keep on its roll employees who are indisciplined, lazy, or duplicitous whatever the consequences and irrespective of their sponsors or protectors.”
Stakeholders and members have been urged to remain calm and avoid rushing to judgment as the matter is handled by the relevant authorities.
To reinforce its commitment to transparency, the association declared that its financial records are open for scrutiny. “Our books of account are current and available and accessible to all stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
